The College
Orientation Class
As part of the orientation
experience, first-time freshmen are required to take the eight-week psychology
120 College Orientation class. The class is taught by upper-division
students who have completed the Leadership Training course. Following is a
list of the objectives covered in College Orientation.
- attend a study skills workshop
presented by the College Orientation Leader or a faculty member
- complete an academic advisor
assignment card and be able to identify the steps to the pre-enrollment
process.
- identify the classes that make up
the core curriculum
- identify the role of Student
Services, the Learning Center, Campus Security, Career Services, Financial
Aid, Counseling Services, Health Services, and Enrollment Services
- attend two campus-sponsored
activities from the following areas:
- fine arts (concert, play, art display, etc.)
- Campus Activities Board activity
-convocation or seminar
-athletic event
-departmental workshop or activity
- attend seminars on the issues of
HIV/AIDS awareness, alcohol/drug abuse prevention, and campus dating violence
awareness
- identify aspects of campus
academic and drug and alcohol policy
- identify and discuss the impact
of diverse populations at MSSC
*Objectives for non-traditional and transfer classes may
vary slightly.
