George A. Spiva Library

Computers, Printing, Scanning & Copying

Computers

The use of computers at Spiva Library is governed by the University's Computer Acceptable Use Policy.

There are Dell computer workstations located on the 1st, 3rd & 4th floors of the library. All workstations have the Windows XP platform and Microsoft Office products.

Students who wish to use a computer located in the library or in another computer lab on campus will use the MOSO ID and Password assigned to them to log onto the workstations. This information will be listed on the financial statement the student receives prior to each semester of enrollment.

The MOSO ID and Password can be looked up via LionLink. See the LionLink website for instructions on how to sign on and access your personal data.

Also, you may request this information if you appear in person with a picture ID at a Dean's office, the Library Reference or Circulation desks, or the Information Services Help Desk in Matthews Hall, 222.

There are select workstations on the 1st & 3rd floors of the library that may be used by community patrons. Community patrons must present a photo ID at either the Reference Desk (3rd floor) or Circulation 2 Desk (1st floor) and sign in, in order to use a workstation. MSSU students have priority access to these workstations at all times.

Community users are limited to 1 hour of usage per day and have no printing privleges. The University s computer use policy applies to community users as well as MSSU students.

The 3rd floor of the library is intended to be an area conducive to students who are conducting scholarly activities. In a survey conducted by a consultant, it was noted that cell phones ringing and persons talking on cell phones bothered many people. It was decided to ban them from this floor and the  quiet room  located on the 4th floor.

Chat, IM & game programs are prohibited on 3rd floor computers because these computers are intended for scholarly activities. Chatting, etc. may be done on workstations located on the 1st floor near the coffee shop.

Printing

Each computer workstation on the 1st & 3rd floors, excepting the 2 scanner workstations is conntected to both a color and a B&W network printer. Each workstation on the 4th floor is connected to ONLY a B&W network printer.

At this time there is no per page charge to use a printer for MSSU students, faculty or staff. This arrangement is subject to change if it is determined that a per page charge is warranted.

Scanning

There is one flatbed (8 1/2 x 11) scanner located at a specified workstation on the 1st floor and a second scanner located on the third floor. These workstations are accessed the same way as all other workstations with a MOSO ID and Password logon.

Community patrons need to present a photo ID and be logged on by a library staff member.

The 2 scanner workstations are not networked to a printer. A 30 minute time limit is enforced for the scanner workstations for ALL users, including MSSU students.

There is no charge to use the scanners.

Copying

The Library has 4 photocopiers. Three machines are located on the third floor; two adjacent to the Main Circulation desk and one in front of the Reference desk. The fourth machine is located near the secondary Circulation desk on the first floor.

All of the photocopiers require the purchase and use of a Copicard. Copicards are available in the amounts of either $2.00 or $5.00 at the Circulation desks and work like a debit card.

The 2 copiers by the Main Circulation desk on the 3rd floor and the photocopier near Circulation desk #2 on the 1st floor are B&W copiers that charge 10 cents per copy. The photocopy machine by the Reference desk is a color copier and charges 25 cents per copy.
