     The primary mission of the Social Science Department is to prepare our students for dynamic leadership and responsible citizenship in their communities, their nation, and the world.
     A major or minor in Sociology is excellent preparation for work in a variety of fields. Diverse career options include human and social services, the criminal justice system, teaching, law school, and of course higher education. Many of our Sociology graduates go on to M.A. and Ph.D. programs elsewhere and find that their degree from MSSU has prepared them well. Sociology students at Missouri Southern enjoy opportunities for travel, internships, and professional development along with a close working relationship with our distinguished and dedicated faculty.
