Frequently Asked Questions

Inmages of Residence LifeFrequently Asked Questions

Q: Are Freshman required to live on-campus?

A: Yes, Missouri Southern does require all freshman under the age of 21 to live in the residence halls, unless they are married, live with their parents, to the extent of housing available.

Q: What if I do not get along with my roommate?

A: We know that living with another person can sometimes be difficult. For some of our residents this may be the first time they have ever had a roommate. We will not leave a resident in a situation that is unmanageable, but at the same time working through some problems can help a student grow. We do not make any room changes the first two weeks of school. It is important that students discuss their differences and come to a compromise that is beneficial to everyone involved. Most roommate problems can be resolved by good communication.

Q: Will I be able to contact my roommate(s) before check-in?

A: To help “break the ice” and plan what to bring, we will send your roommate(s) names and home phone numbers with the room assignment.

Q: When can I expect my room assignment?

A: Room assignments are typically mailed out around mid to late June. If you have not received your room assignment, please call the Student Services office

1-866-818-MSSU(6778) or 417-625-9392 to make sure we have received your contract.

Q: Where can I find more information about my current room?

A: This web site has a lot of information under the Housing Style link. The admissions office offers tours of the campus that include the residence halls.

Q: How do I apply for housing?

A: You can pick up a contract in the Residence Life Office in Billingsly 211 or request to have a housing contract mailed to you, 1-866-818-MSSU(6778) or 417-625-9392. Before we can assign a student their room we must have their $150 deposit on file.

Q: Can my child bring their pet to campus?

A: Pets are not allowed in the residence hall. We do allow small fish bowls, but that is all.

Q: What if I don’t have a roommate request?

A: We try to match students who have similar interests and study habits. Make sure you fill in the section on the personal information sheet that covers hobbies and special interests.

Q: When can I move in? Can I move in early?

A: The residence halls reopen the Thursday before fall classes begin at 8:00 am. You may check-in any time after that date. We are open year around and have separate contracts for intersession times. Arriving one to two days before Fall check-in is not considered intersession housing, therefore you will not be allowed to check-in early.

Q: How does “co-ed” housing work?

A: Our apartment buildings and East Hall (suite style) house both genders. The room assignments are always gender specific, but men and women may live next to each other. These facilities all have individual bathrooms in each room.

Q: Does Missouri Southern offer married housing?

A: Missouri Southern does not offer married housing.

Q: Do the rooms have Internet and cable TV?

A: All our rooms have Internet access. Our residence halls have wireless Internet accessibility throughout as well as land lines in each room. All Internet is high speed, through our local network. We do not use any dial-up Internet. See our Internet agreement for more details. Each room is also cable ready. All you need is a TV and coax cable. These services are included in your rental package.
