'Scree' is one of those words that sounds like a small, furry critter squealing in pain, however, it signifies a steep mass of pebbles and other debris.

Description: This meter was similar to the modern LaCoste & Romberg
Air Sea sensor, but with a primitive gimbal and damping system. The
gimbal was basically a passive pendulum mount where the meter was
suspended from above. Unfortunately, this style of gimbal only damped
vertical and horizontal accelerations less than +/- 50 gals. Therefore,
it was not practical in all but the calmest of sea states. This
prototype gravity meter was used for extensive shipborne testing.
