Meeting Degree Requirements

This page is intended to serve as a summary of degree requirements for transfer students, and transfer students must meet all degree requirements as outlined in the catalog.

Information for Students Transferring From...

An Accredited Public Two-Year College in Missouri

  • Students who have completed the State of Missouri General Education Core Curriculum (42 semester hours) or have earned an Associate of Arts (AA) prior to enrolling at MSSU, will have met MSSU lower division General Education Requirements A-H.
  • Students must additionally meet General Education Requirement I with equivalent transfer courses or complete the required course at MSSU.
  • Transfer students who have not completed the above State of Missouri General Education Core will have their courses evaluated on a course-by-course basis.
  • MSSU will accept unlimited lower division transfer hours from an accredited two-year college.
  • Credits from an accredited two-year college will be accepted to fulfill lower division requirements only.
  • The following requirements must also be met:
    • Students must earn a minimum of 60 semester credit hours at MSSU or other accredited four-year institution.
    • A minimum of 30 of the last 36 semester hours for the Baccalaureate Degree must be earned in residence at MSSU.
    • One-half of the major requirements must be earned at MSSU.
    • A minimum of 40 semester hours must be upper division.

An Accredited Two-Year Private or Out-of-State College

  • Students transferring with an Associate of Arts (AA) from an accredited two-year private or out-of-state college will have met MSSU lower division General Education Requirements A-H. The AA must include at least one United States history course and an American government course that fulfills the Missouri State Legislation Requirements (Section 170.011). Classes that are equivalent to MSSU's HIST 110 or 120 and PSC 120 meet this requirement. If you have not taken these courses, you can fulfill the requirement by taking them at MSSU. Students transferring the equivalent of PSC 120 must take an exam over the Missouri Constitution.
  • Students must additionally meet General Education Requirement I with an equivalent transfer course or complete the required course at MSSU.
  • Transfer students who have not completed an Associate of Arts degree will have their courses evaluated on a course-by-course basis.
  • MSSU will accept unlimited lower division transfer hours from an accredited two-year college.
  • Credits from an accredited two-year college will be accepted to fulfill lower division requirements only.

An Accredited Public Four-Year College or University in Missouri

  • Students who have been awarded a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited public Missouri college or university, prior to enrolling at MSSU, are assumed to have fulfilled all lower division General Education Requirements.
  • The following requirements must also be met:
    • A minimum of 30 of the last 36 semester hours for the baccalaureate degree must be earned in residence at MSSU.
    • One-half of the major requirements must be earned at MSSU.
    • A minimum of 40 semester hours must be upper division.

An Accredited Four-Year Private, Out-of-State, or International College or University

  • Transfer students who have not completed a previous degree will have their courses evaluated on a course-by-course basis.
  • Transfer students who have been awarded a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited out-of-state college or an accepted foreign equivalent, prior to enrolling at MSSU, are assumed to have fulfilled all lower division General Education Requirements.  The bachelor's degree must include at least one United States history course and an American government course that fulfills the Missouri State Legislation Requirements (Section 170.011). Classes that are equivalent to MSSU's HIST 110 or 120 and PSC 120 meet this requirement. If you have not taken these courses, you can fulfill the requirement by taking them at MSSU. Students who have taken the equivalent of PSC 120 out-of-state must take an exam over the Missouri Constitution.
