MSSU does not mail hard copy grade reports. You may access your final grades by logging into LioNet and selecting final grades from the Student Quick Links menu. Grades that appear in Blackboard are not official.
If you require an official grade report for a single semester for reimbursement from an employer or other purposes, you may request that a hard copy be mailed to you using the Grade Request Form. If you need a transcript which includes all of your courses and grades, please submit a Transcript Request.
A student's grade is officially recorded by letter. At Missouri Southern, the following grades and their numerical equivalents are used:
|SA||Outstanding - Support Course||--|
|SB||Above Average - Support Course||--|
|SC||Average - Support Course||--|
|SD||Minimum Passing - Support Course||--|
|SF||Failing - Support Course||--|
|AU||Audit (No Credit)||--|
|CR||Credit (Passed with no specific grade)||--|
|NO||No Grade Submitted by Instructor||--|
Support Grades: Grades with an "S" preceding another grade symbol indicate support or remedial courses which are not included in the GPA and the credit hours are not counted toward the credit hours needed for graduation.
No Grade (NO): A 'NO' grade will appear on the transcript if the faculty member did not submit a grade for the student. A 'NO' grade does not carry any credit or grade points. Students should follow up with the faculty member, and the faculty member will need to submit a Change of Grade form (see below).
Audit (AU): A student may audit a class for no grade and no credit. A Request to Audit must be filed in the Registrar's Office by the end of the second week of class. Acceptable performance, attitude and attendance as determined by the professor are expected. Regular fees and enrollment procedures are required. A student may not change enrollment from audit to credit nor from credit to audit. An audit means only that a student registered for the course. It does not imply any level of proficiency or knowledge.
Incomplete (IN): A grade of 'IN' may be reported if a student is unable to complete the work of the course within the semester for a valid reason such as illness, death in the family, an emergency, etc. It is not intended as a substitute for an 'F' and does not entitle a student to attend the class during a subsequent semester. An incomplete must be made up by the end of the next semester (excluding summers) or it will be converted to an 'F' automatically. Both credit and grade points for that course are suspended until the incomplete is converted to either a passing grade or an 'F'. A student may not graduate with an incomplete grade.
In Progress (IP): A grade of 'IP' will be given in a situation in which a student is unable to complete the work of the course within the semester for a valid non-emergency reason, such as a research project or internship that overlaps two semesters. It is not intended as a substitute for an 'F' and does not entitle a student to attend the class during a subsequent semester. An 'IP' must be made up by the end of the next semester (excluding summers) or it will be converted to an 'F' automatically. Both credit and grade points for that course are suspended until the 'IP' is converted to either a passing grade or an 'F'. BSE majors will not be able to begin student teaching if an 'IP' grade is in force. A student may not graduate with an 'IP' grade.
A change of grade is initiated by the faculty member by filing a Change of Grade form with the Registrar. No change of grade is to be made without good cause. Exceptional cases will be reviewed by the school dean and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Change forms must be submitted within one year.
To compute your semester GPA, divide total semester earned quality points by total semester GPA hours. To compute your cumulative GPA, divide total cumulative earned quality points by total cumulative GPA hours.
GPA Hours Attempted
Quality Points Earned
|CIS 105||A=4||3||3||12 (4x3)|
|ENG 101||C=2||3||3||6 (2x3)|
|KINE 103||B=3||2||2||6 (3x2)|
Semester GPA = 3.00 (24/8) (Total semester quality points earned divided by total semester GPA hours attempted.)
Calculators for predicting or raising your GPA can be found on the web. (By selecting this link, you will leave the MSSU website. The site is being offered as a convenience and should not be viewed as an endorsement of the site by MSSU).
Students may repeat courses in which grades 'F, D, C, or B' have been earned. When a course is repeated, the first grade will not be removed from the record, but the latest grade will be used when computing GPAs. Transfer courses may be repeated if Missouri Southern offers the same course.
Repeated courses will show an "E" in the repeat column of the transcript indicating that the course is excluded from GPA calculations. The most recent attempt of the repeated course will show an "I" in the repeat column of the transcript indicating that the course is included in GPA calculations.
An Honors or Deans' List, issued at the end of each semester, contains the names of full-time undergraduate students who have a 3.75 GPA or higher with no incomplete or in progress or a grade below 'C'. Support courses below the 100 level are excluded from this calculation.
