Dr. Christie Cathey, Social
Psychologist
|
Dr. Cathey earned her Ph.D. in social
psychology from the University of Connecticut in 2002. She is interested
in how social class and power affect people - both in how these variables
influence interpersonal relationships as well as how they influence people's
self-conceptions. Her dissertation research examined how one type of
social power (source expertise) influences the ways in which people come
to understand and frame political issues. Dr. Cathey teaches courses
in general psychology, social psychology, and theories of personality at MSSU.
Having studied abroad for two years (in Oxford, England and Grenoble,
France), Dr. Cathey is very interested in talking to students who wish to
take advantage of the many opportunities for study abroad that MSSU offers.
She took a group of psychology majors to conduct
research in France in May 2004.
