Reed Named "Outstanding Graduate"

Alexandra "Alex" Reed, Neosho, has been named "Outstanding Graduate" by the Alumni Association at Missouri Southern State University. The award will be formally announced at the MSSU Honors Convocation scheduled for 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4 in Taylor Performing Arts Center at Missouri Southern.
Alex, a senior Elementary Education major, will graduate in May with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She also has attained additional certification in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) - K-12. For more, see the story online The session is slated for 3 p.m. on Friday, May 6. The meeting will be held in the Board Room in the Billingsly Student Center.

 

S.P.E.A.K. Participants Win Awards:

Naomi Austin, graduating English major, was named the recipient of the Missouri Association of Teachers of English Robert J. Greef Award winner. The award is also affiliated with the National Council of Teachers of English.  She received this award at the Write to Learn Conference, where she also won second place in the Magnetic Poetry Contest. Recently Naomi was also named the MSSU Outstanding BSE English Student and the Outstanding Sigma Tau Delta Member. Sigma Tau Delta is the International English Honor Society.

Graham Cox won the Morgan Award for Prospective English Teachers, a Sigma Tau Delta award presented annually to one English education major from MSSU.

Six S.P.E.A.K. participants were honored by being selected for membership in Kappa Delta Pi: Beverly Carpenter, Manuel Derryberry, Alexandra Ferguson, Susan Leibee, Andrea Martin and Ashleigh Terry.

Five S.P.E.A.K. participants were selected for the honor of Omicron Delta Kappa membership: Naomi Austin, Kathryn Booher, Stacy Borgard, Lindi Todd, and Jamie Zeuschner.
