Caves are
common geologic features throughout the Ozarks. Cracks in the
thick, soluble layers of limestone and dolomite rock beneath the
Ozarks enlarge as water seeps through. Eventually these large,
water-filled conduits form an extensive underground drainage
system that, when drained and filled with air, become caves.
