JOPLIN, MO (SNS) - Window to Paris
(Russia, 1995) is the first comedy to be featured in the Russian
film Festival at Missouri Southern State University. The film will be
shown at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 12 at Cornell Auditorium in Matthews Hall
at MSSU.
The presentation is free and open to the public. This
wonderfully invective, wildly hilarious comedy from director Yuri Mamin
starts in St. Petersburg, where an impoverished music teacher finds that
the closet door of his new one-room apartment opens onto a window on the
other side of which lies . . . Paris!
Soon, the denizens of the Russian flat are busy transporting
themselves (and all of the good they can find) over the Paris rooftops
into their St. Petersburg apartments.
Window to Paris is a sharp, witty and totally original
satire. Those looking for an outstanding Russian film or any lover of
comedy and the absurd will want to see this rarely offered modern film.
The Russian Film Festival, part of the larger Russia Semester at
Missouri Southern, is presenting a total of 10 films. The Russia
Semester features a variety of presentations, speakers, films and other
events focusing on the people and culture of Russia.
