JOPLIN, MO (SNS) -The Youth Symphony Orchestra of The Shanghai Conservatory of Music will perform a concert on Tuesday, September 24, at Taylor Performing Arts Center on the MSSC campus. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. and admission is free. The Shanghai Conservatory is one of the best music schools in China and the youth symphony orchestra consists of its top students and faculty members. Founded in 1992, the orchestra visited France and Germany in 1998 and 1999. Their concert tour of America this year includes performances at Los Angeles (at Disneyland), Memphis, and St. Louis, as well Joplin. The orchestra will perform a program of Chinese musical works, both traditional and modern, performed on Chinese and western musical instruments. The orchestra will also perform the first Chinese violin concerto, The Liang & Zhu (Butterfly Lovers) Violin Concerto. Dr. Kexi Liu of Missouri Southern State College will be guest soloist.
