JOPLIN, MO (SNS) - Following are events during
competition week that provide excellent news and photo opportunities.
There will be people from around the world to interview, some from
places very much in the news today. We invite you to come and see why
this is such an exciting cultural event for the entire region. Gwen Hunt
and/or Steve Smith will be available at each event to assist.
Sunday, April 21: Contestants arrive at Joplin Regional
Airport Contestants from Cuba, Russia and USA), will arrive at 3:27
p.m. and be met by their host families.
Monday, April 22: Pizza Party: 5 -7 p.m.Taylor Auditorium
Lobby Interview host families, contestants, Competition director and
committee members. Contestants will register, have a brief orientation
and draw times for their performance rounds. Of special interest:
Contestants from Israel (Ran Dank, 20, lives in Jerusalem and is in the
military.), South Korea (Eun Young Hong), and Cuba (Javier Gonzalez.)
Tuesday, April 23: Lecture/Demonstration, 1-2 p.m Webster
Hall Auditorium with British pianist Martin Jones. Over 400 children
will be attend from Joplin, Lamar, Neosho and Webb City.
Master Class with Honors winners, 2:30-4:30 p.m., Webster
Hall The Competition Judges will work individually with the young
Honors Audition. Winners (selected in March), giving them helpful
instruction on their performances.
PROTOCOL: We request that cameras be stationary during a lesson so as not to distract the teacher and student. Martin Jones Recital: 8 p.m., Taylor AuditoriumPROTOCOL: We request that cameras be at the back of the audience (at the halfway aisle in front of the curtain), and that no lights be used. April 24-27: Wednesday, April 24-Friday, April 26 Day and Evening Competition Rounds PROTOCOL: There can be no noise or distraction for the judges or contestants. Cameras may set up before a contestant enters and must remain stationary until the contestant finishes his or her program.
Saturday, April 27 Gala Winners Concert: 8 p.m., Taylor Auditorium Awards presentation: Winners receive their medals and cash awards. Concert: Award winners each perform a favorite selection.PROTOCOL: Cameras may shoot from down front during the awards presentation. During the concert, we request cameras be stationary along the sides. No lights. Winners and judges are available for interviews at the reception following the concert. Other opportunities at Hastings Books and at host families' homes will be scheduled. |
