JOPLIN, MO (SNS) -A total of 36 participants will take
part in the upcoming Ninth Missouri
Southern International Piano Competition (MSIPC), scheduled for
April 23-27 on the Missouri Southern State College campus.
Applications from the U.S. and nations around the world began
pouring into the Missouri Southern International Piano Competition
office at the beginning of the year. The number of applications
increased by 40 percent compared to the last competition. Of 36
competitors selected, about half come from outside of the United States.
They will participate in the semifinal and final round of competition on
the MSSC campus. Host families will accommodate participants during
their stays.
The participants are as follows.
Junior Division - age 17 and under:
"The quality of the applicants was tremendous!" commented Vivian León, Director of MSIPC. "The selection committee had a difficult time making some of the decisions. Many of the video tapes had to be reviewed more than once," she adds. The Missouri Southern International Piano Competition is a non-profit organization funded by contributions. All performances are open to the public, with daytime activities offered at no charge. Students with appropriate I.D. are offered free admission to the performances any time throughout the week.
