JOPLIN, MO (SNS) - Then 42nd Annual
International Film Festival's 2003-04 season will feature eight motion
pictures from the same number of countries. Included will be the works
of such celebrated filmmakers and performers as David Lean, Jean-Pierre
Melville, Harold Lloyd, Celia Johnson, Trevor Howard and Marcello
Mastroianni.
Films scheduled to run are as follows:
- Sept 16: THE FRESHMAN, a delightful silent comedy
with Harold Lloyd as an overly ambitious boy, from the U.S.A.
- Sept. 30: BRIEF ENCOUNTER, David Lean's
deeply-felt love story adapted from Noel Coward's screenplay, from
England.
- Oct 14: BED AND SOFA, Abram Room's masterpiece of
intimate relations, minutely observed, from Russia.
- Oct. 28: BELL 'ANTONIO, Mauro Bolognini's sex
comedy/satire featuring Marcello Mastroianni, from Italy.
- Feb. 24: To be announced.
- March 9: LES ENFANTS TERRIBLES, Jean-Pierre
Melville's eloquent study of a complex combative relationship, from
France.
- March 23: ANGI VERA, Pal Gabor's award-winning
portrait of a naïve but earnest young woman, from Hungary.
- April 6: SUMMERSKIN, Leopoldo Torre Nilsson's
intense depiction of a dying man and his friend, from Argentina.
Presented by the Missouri Southern State University Film Society,
the series is funded in part by Missouri Southern's Institute of
International Studies. The films will be shown each Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
in Matthews Hall Auditorium. Season tickets are $10 for adults and $7
for senior citizens and students.
