JOPLIN, MO (SNS) Missouri Southern captured four Gold ADDY Awards and six Silver ADDY Awards at the recent Joplin Area Advertising Federation (JAAF) awards program for advertising creative excellence. The annual dinner and awards presentation was attended by about 100 individuals from the local advertising and media community.

Of the more than 200 entries received by the JAAF, 37 Gold ADDY® Awards and 48 Silver ADDY® Awards were presented. Entries were judged based on creativity, originality and creative strategy.
Missouri Southern’s 2005 edition of the Winged Lion won a Gold ADDY and Best of Show in the Student category.

Graphic arts student Rhonda Jackson, a senior from Lamar, won a Gold ADDY and a special Judges’ Award for a cover titled “Focus.”

Southern won Gold ADDYs for a Teacher Education Passport to Service piece, which was designed to provide students with a record of their community service projects throughout the Teacher Education program.

Southern’s digital brochure, available from the MSSU home page at www.mssu.edu, won a Gold ADDY in the Interactive division.

Three pieces designed for the Missouri Southern International Piano Competition won Silver ADDYs and the Missouri Southern cookbook captured a Silver ADDY. Melissa Karsten, a senior double major in graphic and studio art from Baxter Springs, KS, was awarded a Silver ADDY for Editorial Design for Crossroads.

“We are very proud of our student entries and we are especially proud of the creative services provided by the professional staff and others who contribute to the entire process,” said Rod Surber, Director of Public Information. “It’s always gratifying to receive recognition from your peers in the industry and it encourages one to strive to provide even better products and services in the future.”
