JOPLIN, MO (SNS) - Missouri Southern will host a TRiO Day celebration on Saturday, Feb. 26. The day will feature appearances by Senator Gary Nodler and State Representative Ron Richard.

TRiO is a federally funded grant program that helps students in grades 6-12 get into and, ultimately, graduate from college.

TRiO is composed of 7 programs, two of which, "Upward Bound" and "Student Support Services" (known together as Project STAY) are available on the Missouri Southern campus. In addition to the 50 Upward Bound students from MSSU, there will be 50 Upward Bound students here from SMSU in a cooperative effort.

Senator Gary Nodler will address the students in Cornell Auditorium in Matthews Hall at 11 a.m. At 12: noon, Representative Ron Richard will speak to the students over lunch in the Connor Ballroom in the Billingsly Student Center. Each legislator, both MSSU graduates, will speak for approximately 30 minutes.

"We are very pleased that both Senator Nodler and Representative Richard will be here," says Kathy Feith, Upward Bound Project Coordinator at MSSU. "This will help the students understand more about government and demonstrate the state's commitment to educational excellence."

The media is invited to cover the day. For more information, contact Kathy at ext. 9890.
