What Are the Fine Arts Radio
International®Awards?
The Fine Arts Radio International Awards (FARIA) were inaugurated in 2000 by The Klassix Society for the
purpose of recognizing outstanding achievements in classical
music education via the medium of radio. Each year two awards
are given: the contest award for the best entry in the annual
worldwide competition, and the Karl Haas Prize for Music Education,
given to an outstanding individual whose contributions to
classical music education via the medium of radio are deemed of
exceptional merit by The Klassix Society board of directors.
What is The Klassix Society?
Chartered in 1990 as the not-for-profit friends group of
KXMS-FM (officially known since September 3, 1998, as
88.7KXMS/Fine Arts Radio International), its primary purpose is
to support and promote 88.7KXMS. The organization's broader
mission is to promote classical music in Southwest Missouri,
and to advance classical music education. The official Web site
