JOPLIN, MO (SNS) - The MSSU Math League Awards Banquet was held Thursday, April 20 in the Billingsly Student Center on the campus of MSSU.

 

Math League is a mathematics competition in which students from 22 area high schools come to the campus of MSSU for five meets each academic year and take tests consisting of standard mathematics topics and also advanced team problems.

 

The schools are partitioned into four classes based on size. The competitions and banquets are coordinated by Dr. Dennis Harmon, Department of Mathematics, with the help of the department head’s secretary, Betty Bartlett.

 

Test questions are submitted by faculty members of the MSSU Department of Mathematics. Meets are proctored by MSSU students that volunteer their valuable time to administer the tests. More information on Math League is available at the web site www.mssu.edu/math/league.

 

Plaques were awarded to this year’s winners which are listed below:

 

Class A:
First place: College Heights High School
Second place: Billings High School
Top Individual: Wolfgang Fleischer, Billings High School

 

Class AA:
First place: Riverton High School
Second place: Jasper High School
Top Individual: Tiffany Woods, Riverton High School

 

Class AAA:
First place: Mount Vernon High School
Second place: Columbus High School
Top Individual: Teaven Taylor, Mount Vernon High School

 

Class AAAA:
First place: Joplin High School
Second place: Carthage High School
Top Individual: Kelsey Knewtson, Joplin High School
