Creighton Double-Up

JOPLIN, MO (SNS) - The Missouri Southern State University Speech and Debate Squad competed in the Annual Creighton University Double-Up hosted by Creighton University Oct. 20-22 in Omaha, Neb.


Taking part were 74 tournament debaters from 21 colleges and universities.

At the tournament, Mary Easley, freshman from Neosho, and Valerie Melton, freshman from Mt. Vernon, qualified for elimination rounds with 5-1 and 4-2 records respectively in the junior varsity Lincoln Douglas debate division.

 

Melton lost a quarterfinal round to a debater from Creighton University. Easley went to the semifinal before losing to a debater from Washburn University. Melton also placed fourth, winning an individual speaker award in LD debate.

 

Kelly B. Larson, Forensics Director at Missouri Southern, says the team is traveling next week to Topeka, Kan. to compete in the Washburn University Ichabod Classic.
