China Semester

JOPLIN, MO (SNS) - More than 40 activities have been scheduled for the fall 2007 China Semester, according to Chad Stebbins, International Studies. The complete schedule can be viewed at www.mssu.edu/china.

 

Five concerts highlight the list of activities:

 

  • "Songs and Dances from China," Wednesday, Sept. 19

  • "Diabolo Dance Theatre of Taiwan," Wednesday, Oct. 3

  • "Ku Fu Theatre: Tales from the Beijing Opera," Saturday, Oct. 6

  • "Wu Man and Friends," Thursday, Nov. 1

  • "Sound of China," Friday, Nov. 9

 

The Gockel International Symposium, considered the centerpiece of the themed semester, will be held on Thursday, Sept. 27. This year's theme is "China and the U.S.: Steering a Course for Collision or Convergence?"

 

The School of Business Administration is hosting an academic and business conference to coincide with the China Semester Nov. 1-2.

 

The theme of the conference is “China: Blending Tradition and Innovation," focusing on the linkages between China’s historical, social, and cultural past and its current business practices.

 

Six Chinese films, part of MSSU's 2007-08 International Film Festival, round out the semester's activities. The films will be shown every other Tuesday evening in Cornell Auditorium in Plaster Hall.
