Natalya Antonova

JOPLIN, MO (MSIPC) Russian pianist Natalya Antonova will give the opening concert of the 2006 Missouri Southern International Piano Competition in Joplin. She will perform on Monday, April 24 at 8 p.m. in Webster Hall Auditorium on the campus of Missouri Southern State University.

 

Tickets are $15, with students and seniors over 60 admitted free of charge. Tickets are available at the MSSU ticket office in Billingsly Student Center room 112 and at the door.


An international concert artist, Ms. Antonova made her debut with the Leningrad Philharmonic at the age of 16. She has played in concert in countries throughout Eastern and Western Europe such as Russia, Ukraine, Armenia, Germany, France, Hungary, as well as in South Korea. In her Joplin concert, she will perform works of Schumann, Scriabin and Chopin.


Ms. Antonova is returning to Joplin for the second time to judge MSIPC and will serve as the Chair of the international judging panel with pianists from Ireland, Jamaica, Korea and the Unites States. Other prestigious competitions she has judged include the Gina Bachauer in Utah, the Hilton Head International Competition in South Carolina and the Sibelius International Competition in Ohio.

 

After teaching for 10 years at the Leningrad Conservatory, where she was the youngest professor ever appointed in the history of the school, she accepted a position as Professor of Piano in the Russian Academy of Music in Moscow. She is currently a tenured professor at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester N.Y.


Ms. Antonova has given hundreds of master classes and lectures throughout the world including Moscow Conservatory, Paris Conservatory, Budapest Conservatory, Peabody Conservatory and New England Conservatory. She also has participated in many international festivals and each summer conducts piano classes in the International Festival in Paris.
