JOPLIN, MO (SNS) Dr. Barry Jean Ancelet is a professor of folklore and Francophone studies and chairman of the Department of Modern Languages at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He will deliver four presentations at Missouri Southern State University next week. The presentations are:

"Against the Tide," (a documentary film which explores the Cajun and Creole life of Louisiana)

Zachary Richard, Barry Jean Ancelet, and Carl Brasseaux produced the film, which was directed by Pat Mire for Louisiana Public Broadcasting. A brief discussion will take place before and after the film.
Dr. Ancelet is a native Louisiana French-speaking Cajun and has given papers and published articles and books on various aspects of Louisianas Cajun and Creole cultures and languages.
He has a doctorate in Études Créoles (anthropology and linguistics) from the Université de Provence (Aix-Marseille I). He is a member of Frances Palmes Académiques and Quebecs Ordre des Francophones dAmérique, and hosts the Rendez-vous des Cadiens, a weekly live radio show from the Liberty Theater in Eunice, La.
The lectures are being presented as part of Missouri Southerns France Semester, which places a highlight on the culture of France and the influence of French culture on life in the United States. The France Semester is sponsored by the MSSU Institute of International Studies.
