FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
JOPLIN , MO (SNS) - A program in the series “Played in Oregon,” produced by Robert McBride of All Classical KBPS/Portland, has won the Fine Arts Radio International producers’ contest for classical radio productions of 2005.
The submission, an hour with composer David Schiff on the occasion of Mr. Schiff’s 60th birthday, was considered by the judges to be an exceptional educational experience.
Mr. McBride’s entry is part of a weekly one-hour program celebrating the classical music scene in Oregon. The focus is usually on concerts recorded somewhere in the state by locally-based ensembles or soloists or by musicians visiting from around the world.
KBPS-FM, the all-classical station in Portland ( Oregon), once owned by the Portland Public Schools, is now licensed to a community organization, KBPS Radio Foundation. Mr. McBride will receive a trophy similar to the one pictured.
The Fine Arts Radio International Awards were begun by The Klassix Society/Friends of 88.7KXMS in 2000 when it was decided Karl Haas should be recognized for his formidable achievements in the realm of classical music radio.
88.7KXMS/Fine Arts Radio International celebrated 20 years of service to the Four States this past April. Details of the various awards can be found on its home page at www.kxms.org .
