FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
JOPLIN, MO (SNS) - The Robert W. Plaster School of Business Administration (SOBA) of Missouri Southern State University in Joplin has registered with the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. (CFP Board) to provide a new financial planning certificate program.
An independent certifying organization, CFP Board owns the certification marks CFP®, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER and federally registered CFP (with flame logo), which it awards to individuals who meet its education, examination, experience and ethics requirements. Students completing the financial planning program at MSSU will be eligible to sit for the national CFP® Certification Examination administered by CFP Board. The CFP® is Financial Planning’s highest certification standard.
“The CFP Board is pleased to have an educational institution of the caliber of MSSU now offering its approved financial planning curriculum,” said Barton C. Francis, CFP, chair of CFP Board’s Board of Governors. “As student interest in financial planning as a career continues to grow, we anticipate that this program will contribute significantly to the number of qualified candidates seeking to sit for the CFP® Certification Examination.”
Persons interested in the program should send inquires to Dr. Richard Rawlins, associate professor of finance and economics at The Robert W. Plaster School of Business Administration at MSSU.
In considering a school’s application to register a program, CFP Board compares the program with the financial planning-related topics identified in extensive, periodic job-task analysis studies. The job-task analyses survey financial planning professionals to determine areas students should master in order to provide competent, ethical financial planning services.
The topics to be mastered can be categorized into the following broad subject areas: general principles of financial planning; insurance planning and risk management; employee benefits planning; investment planning; income tax planning;, retirement planning; and estate planning.
The goal of The Robert W. Plaster School of Business Administration is to assist students in the development of those intellectual, personal, and professional attributes that will prepare them to become global business leaders and exercise responsibility in the complex business environment of the future. SOBA supports business community’s educational needs through professional development programs and campus-based resources.
The mission of CFP Board is to help people benefit from competent, professional and ethical financial planning. CFP Board owns the certification marks CFP®, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and federally registered CFP (with flame logo) in the U.S., which it awards to individuals who successfully complete initial and ongoing certification requirements.
The CFP Board currently authorizes more than 50,000 individuals to use these marks in the United States. For more about CFP Board, visit www.CFP.net.
