JOPLIN, MO (SNS) – A special evening of music is planned for the first week of October at Missouri Southern State University.
The Southern Jazz Orchestra (SJO) and Southern Exposure will present a Music Gala at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 4 in Taylor Performing Arts Center.
The Gala will include guest vocalist MSSU President Dr. Bruce Speck and special guest the Royal Thunder Drum Line.
Proceeds will benefit the Friends of MSSU Fund which supports the Department of Music and its scholarship offerings.
The community is invited to attend this evening of music.
The Southern Jazz Orchestra, directed by Dr. Jeffrey Macomber, and Southern Exposure, directed by Matt Holt, will perform.
Southern Exposure and the Southern Jazz Orchestra will combine efforts on the “Star-Spangled Banner” and “Shadows of the Night.“
Southern Exposure will present “Time After Time” and “Yardbird Suite.”
The Southern Jazz Orchestra will play “Endless Night” and “Into the Night.”
Southern Exposure and the Southern Jazz Orchestra with guest vocalist Dr. Bruce Speck will present “Accentuate the Positive,” “Song for My Father” and “El Surrey.”
The Royal Thunder Drum Line, under the direction of Brian Fronzaglia, will present “Latin Lover,” “Bande Beat,” “Reich Remixed Double Beat,” Pre-Game #3” and “1 Minute.”
The concert will conclude with a sing along of the classic “America, the Beautiful” featuring Southern Exposure, the Southern Jazz Orchestra, the Royal Thunder Drum Line and guests.
