Singers Wanted for Handel’s "Messiah"

JOPLIN, MO (SNS) – Singers are being sought for the performance of Messiah, Georg Friedrich Handel's famous oratorio, on Sunday, April 15. 

Those interested in singing with the MSSU Concert Chorale, Orchestra, as well as soloists are invited to join in exciting rehearsals and a great performance later this year. Community rehearsals begin Sunday, Feb. 19 from 2 p.m.- 4:30 p.m. in Room 208 of the Fine Arts building on the MSSU Campus. 

Performance week starts on Monday, April 9, concluding with full dress on Saturday, April 14. 

The performance will take place at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 15. 

“We want as many people who are able to join us to please do so, but we also ask if you make a commitment to sing, to please make it a point to be at all of the rehearsals,” Dr. Sharlow says. “We ask you if you are interested to please note the rehearsals dates and times and if you feel you can commit, we ask you to do so,” he adds.

Rehearsals will be held from 2 p.m.– 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 19, Feb. 26, March 4, March, 11, March 25 and April 1. 

Performance week practices will take place from  7 p.m. – 9 p.m. April 9, April 11 and April 12.  Soloists will rehearse from 7 p.m.–9 p.m. on April 13.  Dress rehearsal will be held from noon – 3 p.m. Saturday April 14. The call for performers will begin at 1 p.m. on April 15 with the full performance beginning at 3 p.m.
