2011 Media Showcase Winners Announced

JOPLIN, MO (SNS) - The 2011 Southern Media Showcase winners were announced at Missouri Southern State University on Thursday, Nov. 03, 2011.
 
The Awards recognize outstanding work in print and video projects by area High School students who enter the competition. Over 250 students attended the event and the winners were awarded with medals at the University. This is the fifteenth year for the Media Showcase Awards, which are presented by the MSSU Communication Department.
 
Guest presentations include a segment from two representatives from Cable News Network (CNN).  Producer Tomeka Jones and Correspondent Shannon Travis shared their perspectives on covering news around the country.  Jones is the associate producer for CNN Student News, a daily 10-minute news program.  Travis is a political correspondent for CNN. 
 
Other guest presentations included a segment on local news coverage.  Josh Marsh from KZRG radio shared experiences with the Zimmer radio stations’ non-stop coverage following the May tornado.  Photographer Mike Gullett also shared experiences in covering local news.
 
A special video award, The Passion for Video Award; In Memory of Will Norton was presented this year.
