JOPLIN, MO (SNS) - A group of students from Missouri Southern State University are observing operations at Ansbach University of Applied Sciences in Ansbach, Germany.

The university, which has an enrollment of nearly 1,900 students, is located in Bavaria, Germany's largest federal state, in the southeastern part of the European nation.

Ansbach University specializes in business administration, industrial engineering and management, infomatics, communication, and multi-media.

A total of 13 students, accompanied by Professor J. Chris Moos, Director of the International Trade and Quality Center in the School of Business Administration at MSSU, are observing observations at Ansbach.

The Missouri Southern Students visited the College of Advanced Education. They visited the library and the TV studios as well as the computing center. The MSSU delegation also attended an English language lecture presented by Professor Dr. Thomas Zimmer.

Professor Moos reported that the students are attending seminars and are learning the principles of the free-market economy as it is practiced in Europe. The student group will be in Germany for 10 days, planning to return to the USA on June 1.

Dr. Heidemarie Rammler of Ansbach University of Applied Sciences says the two institutions of higher education have had a partnership since 1997. Last fall, eleven Ansbach students spent one semester at Missouri Southern. This fall another eight Ansbach students plan to study in America.

The University has an interesting history. In the 18th century a barrack was built by master builders. Around 1900 the barrack was replaced by the Hindenberg Barrack, today's distinctive red-brick building. These buildings initially were used by the Germany military. The U.S. Army used it for almost a half century until 1992 when the U.S. returned it to the Free State of Bavaria.

Bavaria has invested over 50 million euros in renovating the buildings and made it ready for academic activity. See the following list of MSSU students taking part in the Ansbach visit.
