JOPLIN, MO (SNS) - Make plans to take part in the 2009 "Go for the Green, Go for the Gold" Homecoming slated for Friday and Saturday, Sept. 25- 26 at Missouri Southern State University.

 

Friday's activities will begin with a Campus Picnic from 10:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. on the MSSU Oval. The picnic is free to faculty/staff and students with I.D. and is open to alumni at a cost of $6.

 

Friday evening will feature an Alumni Awards Reception from 6 - 8 p.m. in Connor Ballroom in Billingsly Student Center on the MSSU Campus. Business attire is recommended. The Reception is open to Alumni Association members for $8 and to non-members for $10. The Reception will honor a variety of individuals including:

 

* Outstanding Alumni 2009 Recipient: Gary Aggus, '76.

 

* Lion-Hearted 2009 recipients The Beimdiek Family in honor of the late George Beimdiek and Dr. Robert and Mrs. Dot Willcoxon.

 

* Hall of Fame Inductees 2009: Stephen Crane, '98, Sonia (Blacketer) Eudy, 00, Cedric Florence, '96, Jennifer Jimerson, '99, Marvin "Red" O Dell, '80.

 

* Outstanding Professors: Dr. Dorothy Bay, Dr. William Kumbier, Terry Marion, '61.

* Governor's Award Recipient: Stephen Schiavo.

 

* 2008 Superior Service Recipients: Dale Fletcher, Physical Plant Employee, Jan Garner, Professional Staff Employee, Ann Quade, Support Staff.

 

The third annual spirit bonfire, sponsored by the Campus Activities Board, will begin at 8 p.m. on the MSSU campus and is open at no charge.

 

On Saturday, Sept. 26, The Lion Pride Brunch will take place in Connor Ballroom in Billingsly Student Center on the MSSU campus. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the brunch will start at 9:30 a.m. Casual football attire is recommended. The cost for the brunch is $8 for Alumni Association members/Lionbackers and $10 for non-members.

 

The Lion Pride Brunch will recognize all of the honorees for Homecoming.

 

The Homecoming Parade will be held at 11:30 a.m. on the MSSU campus. The community is invited to Pre-Game Ceremonies at 1:30 p.m. at Hughes Stadium. The kickoff for the MSSU vs. the UNO Mavericks football game is slated for 2 p.m.

Tickets cost $12 at the gate for adults, $7 for children over age four. Admission is free for children age four and under.
