JOPLIN, MO (SNS) - Missouri Southern State University is the beneficiary of a recent gift by a member of the Missouri Southern Board of Governors who wishes to remain anonymous.

Curt Betebenner, Missouri Southern Foundation Director, says the $60,000 gift will be used to form an endowment for general scholarships.

Betebenner says MSSU provides over $5 million in scholarship assistance to students from state funds that could be used for operations. He says the university uses gifts it receives as an additional source of funding to enhance the campus experience and provide student support.

“We greatly appreciate the generosity of this contribution,” Betebenner says. “The funds will be put to good use.”

He adds that private gifts also can help Missouri Southern sponsor programs, pointing to the recent $10,000 pledge made by MSSU President Dr. Bruce Speck and his wife to fund architectural planning for improvements to athletic facilities at MSSU. He says private dollars are needed at this point to support scholarships and fund architectural planning for the athletic program at Missouri Southern.

“Together we can ensure Missouri Southern continues to provide the best possible experience for our students,” Betebenner says.

Those wanting to make pledges or obtain other information are invited to call the Missouri Southern Foundation at (417) 625-9354.
