JOPLIN, MO (SNS) – Finalists for Missouri Southern State University President will be announced during a news conference at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 9 in Billingsly Student Center Room 310 (House of Lords).

Chairman of the Search Committee, Mr. Dwight Douglas, said the candidates will be announced Wednesday and public visits to Missouri Southern are scheduled for the following week. Details will be provided at the news conference.

A Search Committee headed by Mr. Douglas, also chair of the MSSU Board of Governors, has been working since last August to fill the post of President after Dr. Julio S. León announced his retirement. Dr. Terri Agee, formerly Vice President for Business Affairs, has been serving as Acting President since Dr. León’s announcement.

Other members of the Search Committee include Mr. David Jones, a Springfield attorney, and Ms. Jane Wyman, a Joplin attorney, both members of the MSSU Board of Governors.

 

Members of the Committee from the University include Dean of the School of Arts & Sciences, Dr. John Messick, Joplin; President of the Faculty Senate, Mr. Mike Kennedy, Webb City, Assistant Professor of Biology and Environmental Health; past president of the Faculty Senate, Dr. William Huffman, Joplin, Associate Professor of Accounting; Mr. Dennis Herr, Joplin, Associate Professor of Computer Information Science; Dr. Al Cade, Joplin, head of the Department of Teacher Education; Ms. Debbie Dutch Kelley, Carl Junction, Director of Human Resources; and Ms. Carolyn White, Jefferson City, a senior biology major.

The committee also includes members of the general public - Dr. Larry McIntire, D.O., who practices Otolaryngology in Joplin; Mr. Dave Haffner, Carthage, CEO and President of Leggett & Platt, Inc.; and Mrs. Carolyn Phelps, Carthage, a former member of the Board of Regents. The Missouri Southern Foundation is represented by Mr. Jim Hicklin, Joplin, President and Owner of Abbey Title Company, and the Alumni Association is represented by Mr. Bryan Vowels, Joplin, Branch Manager for A.G. Edwards & Sons.
