FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Dr. Ann Wyman
JOPLIN, MO (SNS) - Early in America's democracy, citizens gathered to talk and learn together about their common problems before deciding how to solve them. Today’s citizens still gather and deliberate to create a reasoned public voice.
Since 1981, National Issues Forums (NIF) has supported a nonpartisan, nationwide network of locally-sponsored public forums for that purpose. Missouri Southern State University students, faculty, staff, and local community members of any nationality are invited to gather and deliberate this year’s NIF topic :"The Energy Problem: Choices for an Uncertain Future."
Meetings will be held in the fireplace area on the main floor of Spiva Library at Missouri Southern.
Participants read a brief brochure on background facts (prepared by the non-partisan Kettering Foundation), and then talk informally about various approaches to the problem. There is no fee to participate, but you must reserve a place. Select one of the dates:
* Tuesday, March 11
* Thursday, March 27
* Wednesday, April 2
* Thursday, April 3
* Monday, April 7
* Tuesday, April 8
To reserve a place, contact Dr. Ann Wyman at wyman-a@mssu.edu, Webster 229, (417) 625-9697 or Dr. Steve Smith at smith-st@mssu.edu, Webster 227, (417) 625-3008; or Dr. John Knapp at knapp-j@mssu.edu, Reynolds 208, (417) 625-9720.
Additional sessions will be scheduled as needed. Sessions can be arranged for community organizations, church groups, etc. at their request.
