FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Dr. Beverly Block JOPLIN, MO (SNS) - Area high schools students will get a preview of college life and a chance to win scholarships and an Apple iPod when The Robert W. Plaster School of Business Administration (SOBA) at Missouri Southern State University hosts its 30th Annual Business Contest on Wednesday, April 2.
Testing begins at 9 a.m. and is followed by lunch and an award ceremony. Last year’s event was attended by approximately 750 students representing 31 high schools in Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas.
“This experience allows high school students to compete academically while enjoying a simulated college experience,” said Dr. Beverly Block, professor of Business Education in The Robert W. Plaster School of Business Administration.
Students compete in categories including Accounting, Business Communication, Business Law, Business Math, Computer Concepts, Economics, Free Enterprise, General Business, Keyboarding, Management, Marketing, International Business, Multimedia, Web Site Development, and Entrepreneurship.
The students will have the opportunity to meet Business faculty and learn more about the programs available in the School of Business. Career Services and Admissions staff will be on hand to answer questions. First place winners in each event will receive a $300 scholarship, and all students are eligible to enter into a drawing for an iPod.
The awards ceremony, which will be held at 1 p.m. in Taylor Auditorium, is open to the public. More information on rules and registration can be found at www.mssu.edu/business.
