Dr. Bruce SpeckJOPLIN, MO (SNS) - Dr. Bruce Speck will begin his role as the new Missouri Southern State University President on Feb. 4, it was announced today by University officials.  His appointment was announced Jan. 18 after a nationwide search.

Dr. Speck, only the fourth MSSU President since the institution became a four-year school, was chosen with the unanimous approval of the Board of Governors and the Search Committee as well as a vote of confidence from the MSSU Faculty Senate.

He comes to Missouri Southern from Austin Peay State University (APSU) in Clarksville, Tenn., where he served as Provost and Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs.

"We look forward to extending a warm Southern welcome to Dr. Speck and his wife, Carmen, as they lead the Southern family through the exciting times ahead," commented Dr. Terri Agee, who has served as Acting President since August. Dr. Agee will serve as Senior Vice President under Dr. Speck.

Mr. Rob Yust will become Assistant Vice President for Business Affairs, and  Ms. Linda Eis will continue to serve the University as Treasurer, the position held by Mr. Yust before Dr. Julio León announced his retirement as President last August.
