JOPLIN, MO (SNS) - Tatiana Tessman, 2006 grand prize winner of the Missouri Southern International Piano Competition, will perform on Wednesday, Feb. 13, in the Rotunda of the State Capitol Building in Jefferson City.

 

Ms. Tessman is a graduate student in piano performance at Park University in Parkville, Missouri. She is studying with Stanislav Ioudenitch, 2001 Van Cliburn Gold medalist and artistic director of the International Center for Music at Park University.

 

Ms. Tessman is a virtuoso whose artistry and versatile repertoire have led to numerous collaborations with well-respected musicians worldwide. She has won many prestigious international piano competitions, and, as a result of her 2006 win of the Missouri Southern International Piano Competition, she made her Carnegie Weill Hall debut the following October. Ms. Tessman returned to Joplin for a one-week residency in 2007.

 

She performed with the Southern Symphony Orchestra and visited a number of area schools. Ms. Tessman is a native of Russia, now living in the United States, where she continues her international career.


MSIPC committee members, students, and journalists will join area legislators for Citizens' Day at the Legislature on Feb. 13.

 

The day begins with a briefing on arts issues, followed by Ms. Tessman's performance at noon. There will be opportunity for visits with legislators, after which the MSIPC representatives will attend the 2008 Missouri Arts Awards presented by the Missouri Citizens for the Arts. MSIPC was itself a recipient of this prestigious award in 2007.

The 12th Missouri Southern International Piano Competition will be held April 21-26.

Competition rounds are free of charge and open to the public. Evening concerts are free to students and seniors, who may obtain a student or senior pass by contacting the MSIPC office.
