JOPLIN, MO (SNS) - Mark your calendar! The next Missouri Southern State University Discovery Day is Monday, Feb.18. The day begins 9 a.m. at Taylor Performing Arts Center at MSSU.

 

The program, designed for potential Missouri Southern students, will include a campus tour, time to visit with a faculty member in your chosen field of study and information on financial aid, scholarships, residence life, and university services. Lunch will be provided.

 

The program is open to students contemplating all majors; however, afternoon auditions and portfolio reviews will be held for fine arts performance scholarship consideration.

 

Art
Bring your Art portfolio and have it reviewed by the professors in the Art Department. Scholarships include the Thomas Hart Benton Award, the Katherine L. Hyde Award, and other performing awards. Theatre
Prepare a monologue or bring a portfolio of your stage, costume, lighting, props and/or sound designs. The theatre faculty will watch monologues and review portfolios to determine scholarship awards. Performance awards are given for acting and technical work. Scholarships are also available for the costume shop, box office, and backstage. Theatre majors include Theatre and Theatre Education.

Music
Warm up and perform a song to earn a scholarship in the MSSU Music Department. Instrumental, Piano, and Vocal students will perform for Music faculty and be awarded performance awards (scholarships) based on auditions. Performance awards can be given to any student, not just Music Majors.

 

Choral Ensembles include: Concert Chorale, Chamber Choir, and Southern Exposure.
Band Ensembles include: Jazz Orchestra, Jazz Combinations, Wind Ensembles, Symphony Band, Lion Pride Marching Band, Lions Roar Pep Band, and Southern Symphony Orchestra.
