Dr. Liu came to the United States in 1984 from Beijing, China. Before coming the States, He had played first violin for 10 years with the National Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra of China, one of the major orchestras in China, and taught violin at Beijing Broadcasting College for several years. In America, he has performed with several orchestras and taught at several schools. Currently, he is a faculty member at Missouri Southern State University and a member of the Southern Trio.Dr. Liu earned his master of music degree, with honor of Pi Kappa Lamda, at East Carolina University and his doctoral degree at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He received Suzuki teacher training Book 1 to 9 at various institutes.Dr. Liu has several publications in music, including two books and an article on violin teaching published in the prestigious British journal, The Strad. |

Dr. Paul CarlsonChicago born violinist Paul Carlson has won accolades of four continents for his solo and chamber music performances and teaching. As Professor Emeritus of Pittsburg State University, he now pursues an active career of teaching and performance. Regarding teaching at Suzuki Violin Academy, Carlson wrote, "I have long admired the magnificent work of Dr. Kexi Liu and I look forward with much pleasure to working with his fine students at MSSVA. I have also enjoyed studying the Suzuki approach with Rhonda Cole in Ithaca, New York. Dr. Liu and I have enjoyed many collaborative experiences which include: performances at Missouri Southern State University, Pittsburg State University, and Shanghai Conservatory of Music in The People's Republic of China." Having earned the Doctor of Musical Arts Degree from the University of Missouri at Kansas City, he is also a graduate of the Chicago Conservatory and Northwestern University. Carlson exemplifies the belief that teaching and playing music can serve as one of the strongest catalysts in helping to bring together people of diverse backgrounds and cultures for mutual understanding. |

Dr. Carolann MartinDr. Carolann Martin was a Professor of Music at Pittsburg State University for 23 years from 1977 to 2001 when she retired. During that time she was Musical Director and Conductor of the Southeast Kansas Symphony Orchestra. She has conducted orchestras in many states throughout the United States of America as well as in England and South America. She conducted the Bournemouth Sinfonietta in Bournemouth, England, UK, and produced a CD of orchestral works by American women composers called "Journeys" which was widely acclaimed and reviewed in the press. The album also included one work recorded with the Arioso Chamber Orchestra in Hartford, Connecticut. This CD was played on National Public Radio in the USA as well as on many radio stations throughout the nation. She was featured twice in Audio Magazine and was the subject of an hour-long interview with Studs Terkel in Chicago's WFMT.Dr. Martin was the first woman ever to conduct the national orchestra in Paraguay, the Orquesta Sinfonica de la Ciudad de Asuncion. She has conducted on four concerts with that orchestra and has been invited to return. She also conducted a concert with the National Youth Orchestra of Paraguay. Dr. Martin was winner of the National Adult Conducting Competition in 1980. She was the first woman ever to win or reach the finals in that contest. She conducted several performances of Tchaikovsky's complete "Nutcracker" ballet with the Houston Civic Ballet and the Victoria Symphony in Texas. She was Assistant Conductor two years at the Eastern Music Festival in Greensboro, North Carolina. Her conducting teachers have included Max Rudolph, Otto Werner-Mueller, Harold Farberman, and Elizabeth Green. Dr. Martin is also an accomplished cellist and teacher of cello and bass. Her cello instructors include Gorden Epperson, Janos Starker, Bernard Greenhouse, and Frank Miller. She was principal cellist with the Chicago Chamber Orchestra, the Chicago Civic Orchestra and the Sioux City Symphony in Iowa. She also performed professionally with symphony orchestras in Oklahoma City (Oklahoma), Columbus (Ohio), Norfolk (Virginia), and Tucson (Arizona.) She currently plays with the North Arkansas Symphony in Fayetteville and has played with the Springfield Symphony in Missouri. She is a member of the Pittsburg State University Faculty String Quartet. Her education includes Bachelor's Degree in Music from Oklahoma City University, Master of Arts from Ohio State University and Doctor of Musical Arts degree with a double emphasis on cello performance and conducting from Arizona University. She has had further study at Indiana University and at numerous workshops and clinics. Dr. Martin is listed in the "International Who's Who of Music," the "World's Who's Dr. Martin joined the Suzuki Violin Academy in May 2006, and will also teach cello and bass students st MSSU in the fall. |

Mrs. Elizabeth MeisingerElizabeth Meisinger joined the MSSVA faculty in March 1999. Mrs. Meisinger graduated from San Francisco State College in 1968 and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music. She received an Education Certification from Missouri Southern State University in 1970. From 1970 to 1978, she taught music at Rock Port and Blue Springs Public Schools in Missouri. She also taught general music and strings at Saudi Arabian International School in Riyadh from 1986 to 1997. She is an experienced performer, being a member of several orchestras in both America and Europe. She attended several string workshops, including Wisconsin Suzuki Institute and Suzuki Institute at University of Louisville. |
