Director of Bands and TrumpetRusty Raymond

Rusty Raymond is currently the Director of Bands at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Missouri. He joined the faculty in 1999. A native of Oskaloosa, Iowa, he taught in the public schools of Iowa and Missouri beginning in 1989.

Previously, he successfully taught on both the high school and university levels. His background includes marching with the Cavaliers Drum & Bugle Corps and a national championship high school band. He has been active for the past 14 years as a drum major and marching band clinician. He has served as the primary instructor and staff coordinator for both University of Kansas Drum Major Camp and the Central College (Pella, Iowa) Drum Major Camp since their inception. He is author of Today’s Drum Major and is active as a drill writer and clinician for high schools and universities throughout the Midwest.

He earned a Bachelor of Music Education and a Masters in Music with an emphasis in instrumental conducting from Truman State University (formerly Northeast Missouri State University). During his time at Truman he served as the Assistant Director of Bands and was a member of the Faculty Brass Quintet.
