Director of Low Brass Studies and Jazz Orchestra 
Dr. Jeffrey Macomber joined the music faculty of Missouri
Southern State University in August 2002. He teaches music theory, music
history, arranging, Jazz Orchestra, and is the studio instructor of trombone, euphonium and
tuba. Previously, Dr. Macomber was the Director of Bands at Bemidji State
University in Minnesota, Clarion University of Pennsylvania, and Phillips
University in Oklahoma. In addition to those posts, Dr. Macomber was a Visiting
Professor of Music at Armstrong State College in Georgia, and was an instructor
of band, orchestra and jazz in the Tulsa Public Schools.

As a trombonist and
euphonium specialist, Dr. Macomber has held positions with the Symphony
Orchestra of Brazil, the Rio Jazz Orchestra, the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, the
Hilton Head Orchestra, the Tulsa "Starlight" Band, and has performed
with the Tulsa Philharmonic, Oklahoma Sinfonia, Savannah Symphony, and
Quad-Cities Symphony. Dr. Macomber also served as the conductor/music director
of the Bemidji Symphony Orchestra (MN).
Dr. Macomber is a native Clevelander. He holds degrees in Instrumental Music
Education and Music Performance from Bowling Green State University (Ohio). He
received the D.M.A. in trombone performance and pedagogy from The University of
Iowa in 1988. He is a published composer (Cantilena for brass
quintet, published by Ensemble Music) with several recent premieres: Brasiliana, performed by the Louisiana Brass Quintet and Ostinati, performed by the MSSU Percussion Ensemble. At the 2004
MMEA conference at Tan-Tar-A, Dr. Macomber presented a trombone instructional
clinic entitled "F-attachment Trombone: A Crash Course for Music
Educators."
He is also the co-founder/music director of Joplin's Route 66
Brass; a college-community brass choir hosted at Missouri Southern
State University. In addition to these accomplishments, Dr. Macomber has
developed a new World Music survey course, which is being offered as part of
the core curriculum at MSSU. He is a member of MMEA/MENC, MBA, and ITA.
