Dr. Cheryl Cifelli's Fall 2008 Faculty Recital

Dr. Cheryl Cifelli, Assistant Professor of Music, is Director of Woodwind Studies and teaches applied woodwinds, woodwind methods, music appreciation, and is the director of the Chamber Ensemble program. She holds all of her degrees from the University of North Texas where she was the principal clarinetist of the Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Eugene Migliaro Corporon.

Dr. Cifelli has most recently performed at the International Clarinet Association's 2008 ClarinetFest held in Kansas City, MO as part of a solo recital. She has been honored as a leading artist in the Heida Herman Concerto Competition in New York and the Fischoff International Chamber Competition in South Bend, IN. Cheryl Cifelli continues to serve as principal clarinetist with the Keystone Winds under the direction of Jack Stamp, perform with the St Louis Wind Symphony under the direction of Dan Presgrave, and to record the commercial CD's that coincide with the GIA series Teaching Music Through Performance in Band. She has also been recorded on the commercial labels Klavier and Citadel.


Prior to coming to MSSU, Dr. Cifelli was in demand as an adjudicator, clinician, and studio teacher throughout Arkansas, Texas, and Louisiana. Her students have gone on to major universities throughout Texas and Arkansas. While teaching in Louisiana she had been appointed as principal clarinetist with the Gulfcoast Symphony in Biloxi, MS.


Her professional affiliations include College Band Directors National Association, Music Educators National Association, Missouri Music Educators Association, and the International Clarinet Association.

 

Dr. Cifelli plays exclusively on Patricola clarinets.
