Greg Haynes holds the Doctorate of Musical Arts degree in percussion performance from the University of Kansas and the Masters degree in performance from the University of Georgia.  Prior to coming to Missouri Southern State University, Dr. Haynes was the director of the University of Kansas marching drumline and the principal timpanist with the KU Wind Ensemble.  Dr. Haynes has been seen in over 400 musical performances throughout the Southeast and Midwestern United States and is an active clinician throughout both regions.  In addition to giving solo recitals and performing with large ensembles and chamber groups, Greg Haynes is constantly engaged in independent projects and has performed with several professional groups and solo artists including Gordon Stout, Pablo Bagilet, and the Triple Tree folk trio.  He is currently on the extra and substitute musicians list with the Kansas City Symphony and is featured as the sole percussionist on the film score for The Only Good Indian, directed by Kevin Willmott and selected for screening at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival.  Before moving to the Midwest, Dr. Haynes performed frequently with his steel band, Liquid Steel, based in Athens, GA, delivering public concerts and educational programs throughout the Southeast.  Dr. Haynes’s teachers over the course of his study include Kevin Bobo, Dr. Thomas McCutchen, Christopher McLaurin, Dr. Arvin Scott, and Dr. Julius Zilinskas with supplemental training coming from seminars such as those taught by Leigh Howard Stevens and the Cloyd Duff School.  His professional affiliations include the American Federation of Musicians, College Music Society, Percussive Arts Society, Mu Phi Epsilon professional music fraternity, and Vic Firth education team.

In addition to maintaining an active schedule as a percussionist, Greg Haynes has also functioned frequently as a pianist with various jazz and Latin combos.  He served as the music coordinator and pianist for Christus Victor Lutheran Church in Athens, GA from 2001 to 2006.
