I. Meets and Times
The League will be composed of high schools divided into four classes, (based on enrollment in grades 9 through 12), class AAAA over 500, class AAA 250-500, class AA 125-250, class A under 125. A school with an enrollment of approximately 25 students above or below the division point may choose to belong to either class. The League will meet once a month from October to March, except January, in the Science and Mathematics building, Reynolds Hall, at MSSC. Schools will have the option of meeting the first Tuesday of the month, at 12:00 noon, or the preceding Monday, at 4:30 p.m If all schools are not present at the designated time, the start may be delayed 5 minutes , but not more.
II. Membership
Each school may field one team of up to 12 members. Teams will be composed of not more than 5 seniors and at least 3 below junior level. Alternates may also come, but their papers will not be graded nor count toward the team totals. The names of the alternates must be submitted on the designated form.
III. Content
There will be three categories of problems for each meet which will be announced at the beginning of the season. Each school is encouraged to submit problems in each category at least three weeks before the contest date. The MSSC faculty will edit and supply additional problems needed and duplicate them.
IV. Scoring
No more than four students from each school will compete in each category. Each student will work individually. Calculators are not allowed. Papers will be graded on the basis of 10 points. No part scores will be given. A problem must have both a correct solution and answer for credit. Answers must be written in the space supplied under the answer column for credit. The top 3 scores in each category will count toward the team score. Twenty-five minutes will be allowed for completion of the problems.
V. Team problem
After the individual problems are completed, a more difficult problem will be given and each school s team will work as a group. Ten minutes will be allowed and 10 points will be added to the team s total for a correct solution. Each team will have a designated captain who will submit one and only one answer and sign the sheet which is handed in. As of Fall, 1998, there is no longer a team "calculator" problem.
VI. Team and Individual Scores
MSSC will keep scores for each team and each individual member. A list of all the teams scores will be mailed to each school after each meet. The size of the school (A, AA, AAA, AAAA) will be indicated and your score will be easily determined in relation to other schools. A photocopy of each school s record will be sent to the sponsor. Please check these carefully for errors and report any errors to us not later than the next meet. Otherwise the record will be assumed correct. A score obtained when a student is an alternate will not be counted toward his individual score. Also ask that your students write their name legibly on the test.
VII. Awards
Plaques will be awarded to the two highest teams in each class and to the top individual in each class. Team totals will be for all 5 meets. Individual totals will be the best 4 out of 5 scores. In the case of ties, the fifth meet will be considered. Certificates of Participation will be given to all students who participate in at least 4 meets either as members or alternates. It will be the team sponsor s responsibility to provide MSSC with a typewritten list of all students from his/her school who are eligible for a certificate.
MSSC expects to offer scholarships to the top senior in each class. Scholarship offers will be based on the total from the best 4 out of 5 individual scores. In case of ties, the fifth meet will be considered. Scholarships will be offered beginning March 15. If the top senior in a class does not accept, scholarships may be offered to outstanding seniors regardless of the class of their school.
