This course is focused on basic building blocks of American Sign Language, finger spelling, Facial Expression, Body Language, and awareness of the Deaf community.

As a continuation of American Sign Language I, this course is focused on building vocabulary, enhancing expressive and receptive, use of signing space, finger spelling, and interaction with the deaf community.

This course is focused on conversation using American Sign Language and all components; classifiers, loan signs, finger spelling, idioms, and interaction with the Deaf community.

CLAY TECHNIQUES

This is an intensive hands-on clay workshop utilizing stoneware or porcelain that is for both beginners and established clay artists. Students may create functional or nonfunctional items utilizing the potters wheel or handbuilding techniques. Glazing and firing methods using food-safe glazes are part of the course -- though the option of a Raku firing is available to students. A $30 studio fee covers firings and glaze materials, clay is not included but may be purchased from the instructor. Enrollment is limited.

Techniques of the Takeda clan's Daito Ryu Aikijujutsu will be explored in the comfort and safety of a controlled environment. Sessions are four weeks long and are ongoing, with students encouraged to sign up for the next four week block of instruction.

This academy covers all aspects of firefighting, firefighter safety, rescue, fire prevention, incident management, emergency vehicle familiarization, emergency driving, fire pump operations, and more. It is a mixture of classroom and hands-on evolutions including live firefighting exercises. The academy prepares the student to take five separate state certifications exams: Firefighter I, Hazardous Materials Awareness, Firefighter II, Hazardous Materials Operations, and Fire Department Driver/Operator.(The Driver/Operator portion of the class is optional. An additional book is required to be purchased by the student). The firefighting course is IFSAC approved and will transfer to Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, as well as most other states.

 

Students are required to spend 20 hours riding and observing at area fire departments and emergency dispatch centers

This course covers the Six Sigma Fundamentals, DMAIC Model, Project Management Fundamentals, Team Effectiveness, Project Selection, Project Charter, Mapping the Process, Measuring Defects, Analyzing the Customer, Data Collection Plans, Histograms, Statistical Process Control, Capability Analysis, Pareto Charts, Root Cause Analysis, Correlation Analysis, Scatterplots, and Measurements Systems Analysis. The software taught is Minitab. This class is highly interactive. The theory is practiced with simulations, exercises, and case work. Participants are expected to work on a small work-related project while taking this course. Successful completion of the course will result in Six Sigma Green Belt certification.

Participants learn and practice theories and methods as well as apply the methods to a project at work, causing a positive impact to the bottom-line of an organization. Specific topics covered include Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA), Understanding Industrial Experimentation, Hypothese Testing, Type I & II Errors, Single Factor Designs, Randomized Blocked Designs, Multifactor Designs2^k Designs, General Factorial Designs, Center Points, Fractional Factorial Designs, Fold-Over Designs, Irregular Fractions, Decision Analysis and Response Plans. Software used includes Minitab and Design-Expert by Stat-Ease. Students will work on a Six Sigma Black Belt project at their respective companies while attending the course. Emphases include verb forms and tensing structures, modals, conditionals, and causatives, noun and pronoun forms, and active/passive voices. Students focus on advanced grammar structures in English at the sentance and paragraph level, including: modals, semi-modals and similar constructions; conditionals and causatives; noun, adverb, and relative clauses; gerund, infinitive and participial phrases; prepositions; articles and active/passive voice structure and use. Highly complex sentence construction and paragraph organization are highlighted as well as choice of grammatical structure to communicate specific intentions. This course requires a placement test or permission of the IEP director.

DESCRIPTION OF MEDICAL INSURANCE BILLER-CODER PROGRAM ON-LINE


These six online courses will assist in preparation for the national certification examinations for medical office assisting, medical billing and medical coding:: Medical Terminology and Body Systems, Diseases of the Human Body for Medical Billing-Coding, Medical Insurance Procedures, Medical Office Procedures, Introduction to Medical Coding, and Advanced Medical Coding.


Students may enroll in individual courses for CE credit and/or preparation for national examinations. However, students must complete all six courses within eighteen months to earn a certificate of completion from MSSU's Lifelong Learning Division.

Medical Terminology and Body Systems introduces the Medical insurance Biller-Coder student to medical terminology through study of word structures such as common medical prefixes and suffixes and the origins of terminology used in medical practice today.
