Fall 2007 Television Courses

Welcome to Missouri Southern Instructional Television! If you have questions regarding television courses and air times, contact Noel Wiseman at (417) 625-9861 or at wiseman-n@mssu.edu. We are here to assist you and help you succeed in your TV course. Just as a reminder, there is a distance learning technology fee associated with these courses.

The course listing with Televised instructors and their email address can be found with the course information on our website (Televised Courses).

Below is a checklist in making sure you are ready for your Televised class:

You must be enrolled in the correct line number that matches where you will be viewing your courses. If you are viewing in Monett, make sure you are enrolled in the course that airs in Monett over SITV; if you are viewing in Joplin, make sure the course airs in Joplin.

Contact the MSSU bookstore through their website http://www.mssu.edu/bookstore or by calling them at (417) 625-9380 to see if you need any textbooks.

If you view the courses in Lamar, you will take the exams at the Lamar Vo-Tech Center (417-682-3548) during the evening and you will not need a proctor agreement.

If you view the courses in Marionville, Aurora, Verona, Pierce City, or Monett, you will take the tests at the Monett Southwest Career Center (417-235-8356) and will not need a proctor agreement.

Students living beyond a 25-mile radius of Monett, Lamar, or Joplin, should contact Robin Douglas for proctor information at 417-625-9577.

If you have questions regarding your class assignments contact your individual instructor(s) by phone or email. For instructor phone and email information check the web page at http://www.mssu.edu/lifelonglearning.

If you are taping and viewing courses at a time other than the broadcast time, it is the responsibility of the student to record the televised classes. In the rare case of broadcast error, students are responsible for calling the information hotline at 417-625-9861 as soon as possible for rebroadcast information.

Televised class tapes are available on the streaming server and are accessible through your Blackboard course site. These files can be viewed from anywhere there is access to a high-speed internet connection. If utilizing the library at MSSU (or any public place) you must provide your own headset for listening to audio. As an additional service, we will email you any rebroadcast information as soon as it becomes available to our office.

In case of technical difficulties and rebroadcast information, you can all the rebroadcast phone number at 417-625-9861. Most of the time information will be distributed via your instructor on the Blackboard site, or you can view the class via the streaming server. Rebroadcasts occur only when there is a technical difficulty on our end of the broadcast.

In cases where television service is interrupted, please call Noel Wiseman at (417) 625-9861 or email wiseman-n@mssu.edu as soon as possible. The earlier students contact us concerning reception problems, the earlier we can begin to correct the problem. You may call the above phone number with any questions pertaining to your televised courses and we will be happy to help you. Any comments that you have are very important to us.

TV VITAL INFORMATION FOR Fall 2007

Many classes are delayed. That means they do not start the first day of on campus classes. Check the grid below to see when OPT classes air.  (Ozarks Public Television can be seen in 57 counties.)  Sometimes OPT can be viewed over DISH Network. KGCS and SITV classes cannot. KGCS classes are broadcast via Cable One and also on Mediacom in Joplin, Webb City and Carterville. Joplin’s Cable One System has KGCS on cable channel 7 and OPT on cable channel 3. On Mediacom KCGS airs on channel 10. Also check the grid below to see when these classes air.

Channels are subject to change, so be sure you are recording the correct channel at the correct time.  In other areas you should call your cable company for station information. If you have any questions, please contact LLL before your class is scheduled to begin. We are here to help you locate your television class if you are confused about which channel it may be on.  You should be able to find some satisfactory explanations in the Fall 2007 schedule book.

When do your classes start?

If you have questions concerning when your first class actually begins, call Noel Wiseman at 625-9861 or email at Wiseman-N@mssu.edu, before the semester begins.

Contact your local cable company for correct station channels in your area. Ozarks Public Television, (PBS), is different than KGCS and both of these stations are different than SI-TV.

Cable companies can run SI-TV on any channel they wish, however, at this time SI-TV reaches these areas via these channels:

Carthage – cable channel 7 Lamar – cable channel 8

Monett – cable channel 54 Neosho – cable channel 12

If you are signed up to receive a class via cable, it is your responsibility to arrange service through your area cable company. Our courses are not transmitted via satellite, (dish).
