The role of the Library Student Assistant is an important one. The Library would not function without the help of the student employee. The importance of their hard work cannot be overstated as the Library's operational integrity and reputation rely upon a well-trained staff providing excellent customer service.
The Library Student Assistant works approximately 15-20 hours a week in all areas of the library doing all kinds of jobs--helping at service desks, binding and repairing books, shelving books, sorting/delivering mail, processing materials, maintaining copiers/printers/scanners and much, much more.
There is no set list of qualifications for working in the library since job assignments are so varied and new employees are trained extensively. However, it is important that the student possess good communication and interpersonal skills. The library serves a broad range of people--faculty, staff, undergraduates, graduate students, high school students and others from the community. It is important that student workers maintain a professional and helpful attitude as they seek to provide quality service to these groups.
As positions become available, the library will submit postings to the Hire a Lion website.
