Classes Offered
Classes designed to meet the special academic needs of students are
offered through the Learning Center.
English 080 – Basic Composition
(3 hrs. cr.)
A basic writing course taken in preparation for English 101. Students
write at least six major papers with special attention given to organization,
syntax, grammar, and mechanics. (Listed under English)
EDUC 151 – College Academic Skills I
(1 hr.
cr.)
This course is designed to emphasize skills critical to student survival
in a college setting.

EDUC 152 – College Academic Skills II

This course is designed to continue development of skills and strategies
for college success.

EDUC 105 – Speed Reading
(1 hr. cr.)
A course designed specifically to increase reading speed. Students must
be capable college level readers to benefit from this computerized format.
In addition students will become aware of factors influencing reading
speed and efficiency. This one hour class presents a non-threatening
environment for students to practice increasing speed while maintaining
an acceptable level of comprehension. Not recommended for students with
comprehension problems. (Listed under Teacher Education)
EDUC 205 – Tutor Training Seminar
(1 hr. cr.)
A course designed for and required of those who will tutor for the Learning
Center. Students learn various instructional methods beneficial for
diverse educational situations including the effective use of the tutor
cycle in tutoring sessions. Students will have the opportunity
to be certified at two levels.
