LANGUAGE TEST-OUTS

Beverly Lang LabBeverly&David

Students with experience in a foreign language may be placed in a higher language course by “testing out”. The guidelines for testing out of a course require that the student be enrolled in the University at the time of the examination and be working toward a degree at Missouri Southern. The student must complete all “test out” examinations with a grade of at least 70% (“C”) before a grade is issued in a more advanced language course. The student may not have taken an examination within the preceding six months for a given course. The examination may not be used to replace a previously earned grade.

NOTE: Foreign Language Department “test out” examinations are NOT CLEP or Advanced Placement tests.  Your exam results are applicable to Missouri Southern State University credit only.

A student may test out of the first four courses of a language - 101, 102, 203, 204, by following these procedures.

(The Spanish Placement Exam is an exception.  Please follow the link to see information.)

Step 1. Speak to the department secretary to determine who will test you.

Step 2. Make an appointment with that faculty member.

Step 3. Pay Student Accounts $30.00 per test and get the receipt.

Step 4. Go to the previously made appointment with the receipt in hand.

After you take the exam, it will be graded and brought, along with the receipt, to the department secretary to process.
