Dr. Joaquin Rodriguez Suro teaches Spanish. He received a B.A. in the humanities at the Universidad de Puerto Rico. After that he completed a M.A. at the New York University Graduate Center in Madrid, then a Ph.D. at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, both in Spanish Peninsular and Latin American literature and culture. He received a second Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University in Brazilian literature and culture. He taught at two Puerto Rican universities as well as at the Pontif cia Universidade Cat lica do Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil, where he taught courses in Latin American culture and history for three years. He has taught at many other places, including the University of Notre Dame, Syracuse University, the University of Nebraska, the University of Vermont, and the College of Charleston. He has published a book in Brazil and is working on several books on Latin American literature and culture as well as on a book on Don Quijote. His main interests are in the relationship between literature, history, and philosophy from a cross-cultural approach.
