Dr. Sherman Hou teaches Chinese and Japanese. A native of Shanghai, China, Dr. Hou received a bachelor of economics degree from the department of foreign languages at Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade. For that degree he studied Japan-related business and business Japanese. He then attended the Beijing Foreign Language University in China where he received a graduate diploma for his studies in Japanese. At the University of Hawaii at Manoa he received an M.A. in Asian languages and literature (majoring in Japanese) and did doctoral studies. He was employed by the University as a full-time instructor in Japanese. He received a Ph.D in computing technology in education at the graduate school of computer information and science at Nova Southeastern University. He had taught previously at the China Textile University in Shanghai, conducting Japanese and Chinese classes. He has done various translations of Japanese novels into Chinese.
